About Brian Monnier
Brian Monnier began teaching yoga full time in 2000 with a focus within the fitness industry. After years of sustaining sports-related injuries, Brian began to practice hatha yoga. Yoga became the vehicle toward healing his injuries.
Brian studied yoga at the San Francisco yoga studio under Tony Sanchez in an intense three year intern/apprenticeship. Brian learned 84 classic asanas over the course of four and a half years.
Developing a practice based on the 84 classic asanas, Brian's mission is to spread the art and science of his lineage of yoga.
Brian also spent nearly 20 years studying Hung Gar kung fu, 15 of those years under the guidance of Sifu Y.C. Wong.
Rounding out his fitness education and experience, Brian also became a personal trainer through NASM (Nation Academy of Sports Medicine).
Using the knowledge gained from years of martial-arts practice and his yoga apprenticeship, and melding it with modern sports science from the NASM certification, his approach is one of classic Eastern physical culture combined with modern Western science.
His classes focus on development of the body and the mind as a unit, working first to free the body of physical restrictions then working towards easing mental and emotional limitations.
