Deborah's Story:

I always heard Yoga was good for you but I didn't fully understand until l walked through the studio doors of Yogic Motion. I was curious and thought a $20.00 introduction offer, sure why not? What have I got to lose?

I am a passionate tango dancer and had lost my balance from my surgery 4 years ago on my abdominal muscles. The surgery made me realize how strong your body can be and fragile at the same time. Mostly I was feeling like my body was in pieces I needed try something new to put it back together. I took my first class at Yogic Motion could not believe how long one hour really was in my mind. I was so sore the next day that I could barely move off my sofa. My entire body was in shock in a good way but still a shock no less. I can be quite stubborn and determine when provoked and I returned to class a few days later. I was shocked that I could not even hold my own foot in my hand and that really bothered me. Brian was so welcoming and endlessly correcting my poses. He never gave up on me even when it was "happy hour on the bar " in the old studio. That bar was "my best friend" for one year due to my weak ankles, weak back, weak knees, weak abdominals you name it, I had it!

Then I started to LOVE how well I slept after class and not having that of feeling of being mentally exhausted. I became more focused at work and my energy level went through the roof. My friends would ask me for about 6 months "what kind of yoga classes are you taking?" I would just tell them "I have no idea I am just sore all the time and sweat like crazy". Looking back now I was in a constant state of soreness but as I got stronger it goes in cycles. As a woman who was so freaked out about looking in the mirror and facing myself. It took this consistent practice of yoga to get to a state of calmness and focus. To be able to accept my limitations but challenge my strengths in my body. I would wear the biggest clothes I could find so I could hide from myself until there was no place left to hide. Finally I was able to truly make that connection with my mind and body for ME!

Last September I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and obesity. I was crushed and couldn't believe that my doctor was only too happy to give me drugs which I flatly refused. That same day I spoke in depth with Brian sobbing and feeling beyond frustrated. He listened to me and gave me great health resources to help me get my sugar levels back to normal. He showed me very specific poses to stimulate my spleen and pancreas which controls your sugar level. Brian encouraged me to bump up my yoga classes to 3 times a week and explore more healthy eating in my lifestyle. Again I hit another level of energy. I have dropped 3 jeans sizes, 8 inches in my torso and lost 46 pounds. I have never felt so great and committed to any exercise EVER in my life! Eventually I started to become stronger and could get into some of those elusive poses. Overtime I started to realize if I could commit to 3 times a week. Why not challenge myself to 4 or 5 times a week? I have become VERY selfish to treat my body as gift of health. I have made my yoga practice apart of my lifestyle routine and still can't believe its been over 2 years! Now my blood sugar is back to normal for almost 10 months and NO DRUGS!

Maybe other people can motivate themselves and I am not shy to say I am not one for those people! I most definitely need someone to cheer me on and challenge me when I need it. Brian has changed my life and I am so blessed to have met this amazing yoga teacher who cares about my mind, body and my overall health. Now when I have a really good class and a little sore the next day I just smile to knowing I did something really great for my body.

So proud to be a yoga student for life and...who still gets to have her red wine!

Muchas Gracias...merci...a million thanks Brian!
